India’s Ports & Shipping Minister Mr. Sarabanand Sonowal, in his speech in Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament, informed that the country has launched ONOP (One Nation One Port Process) framework to ensure uniformity in port processes across all ports in the country. ONOP, along with many other initiatives for improvement of India’s maritime spectrum was announced by the Minister earlier this year in February 2025 at a stakeholder’s meeting in Mumbai.

The measures undertaken include aligning the ONOP framework to upgrade the National Logistics Portal – (Sagar Setu) for seamless electronic submission and processing of all ship-related information across all ports in the Country. It aims at complying with the International Conventions and integrates key stakeholders such as Port Authorities, Customs, Immigration, Port Health Organisations, Directorate General of Shipping on a unified platform. The implementation is expected to reduce 33% of the documentation leading to enhancing efficiency and reduction in cost and time.
