As an annual routine, the bunkering operations are temporarily halted during monsoon season which commences in June and generally ends in August, with relatively fewer showers in September. Halting of any significant port activities became an SOP especially after the devastating Cyclone Mekunu of May-June 2018 with winds gushing into the port city of Salalah at 200 KM/H speed, causing widespread damage to the port, anchored ships and the oil tankers in and around the area and left behind wreckage that took much efforts and long time to clear.
